Try your best to avoid walking or driving through flood waters.All it can take is six inches to knock you over when walking and two feet of water to take your car away. Incase there is a chance of flash flooding, quickly move to higher grounds. The #1 related deaths in the U.S. is due to Flash floods. If floodwaters start to rise around your car, but it is still, get out of your carand to a higher ground. NEVER LEAVE THE CAR AND ENTE MOVING WATER. Stay away from camping or parking lots along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can and may flood quickly without any warning.

Steps to take:

Turn on your devices, so you can recieve the latestweather updates and emegency instructions. Always know where to go, you may have to reach higher ground quick and on foot. Build a emergency peparedness kit if you dont already have one. Include a flashlight, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, satelite radio to be posted on any weather.

Prepare your home:

Bring inoutdoor items and move in important indoor items to the highest possible floor. this will help protect thm from flood damage.  or standingUnplug electrical appliances and do not touch electrilcal equipment if you are wet or standing in water. you coul get electrocuted. If told to, turn off your gas and electricity at the main sswitch or valve. This helps prevent fires and explosions.

After a flood

Return home only when authorities say its safe. Be aware f areas wherre floodwaters often erode roads and walkways. Do not try to drive through areas that are still flooded. Try your best to avoid standin in water as it may beelectrically charged from underground or downed power lines.
